DETROIT – General Motors on Saturday unveiled a fully electric Hummer SUV worth $ 20,000 when it goes on sale in 2023. The vehicle will be the stable mate for an upcoming Hummer pickup that is expected to go on sale this fall.
“The GMC Hummer EVs are considered to be the most capable and compelling electric supercars ever,” Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC, said in a statement.
The Hummer EV SUV told during an ad by NBA star LeBron James during the NCAA’s Final Four game between the Baylor Bears and Houston Cougars on CBS.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV has the same striking torque of up to 11,500 foot pounds as the pickup, but is estimated to have reached 50 miles less, 170 fewer horsepower and is half a second slower than the pickup due to a smaller battery size.
The range of the SUV is estimated to travel between 250 kilometers and more than 300 kilometers, depending on the model. The 0 to 60 km / h is as fast as about 3.5 seconds. According to GM, it has up to 830 horsepower.
Prices
The full price for the SUV will range from about $ 80,000 for a base model to $ 110,595 for a special “Edition 1” launch model with an available ‘extreme off-road package’. Prices vary depending on the range, performance and battery size of the vehicle.
GM said it will begin production of the cheapest models in early 2023, followed by cheaper versions in the spring of 2024. The carmaker is taking reservations for the vehicle on its website.
The pricing and tiger production is similar to how GM introduced the Hummer pickup. The initial availability of the Hummer EV pickup in the fall will start at $ 112,595 for a sold-out “Edition 1”. A $ 99,995 version is available a year later, followed by $ 89,995 and $ 79,995 models in the 2023 and 2024 feathers, respectively.
The exterior of the vehicles looks the same as the enclosed rear of the SUV compared to the open bed of the pickup. Both have a new version of Hummer’s traditional slot grille with ‘HUMMER’ against the front of the vehicles.

Both also offer a number of off-road components and features such as adjustable air suspension and ‘scratch mode’ that allows it to rotate all four wheels simultaneously, allowing the truck to move almost obliquely.
The SUV, like the pickup, is available with GM’s Super Cruise driver assistance system that enables hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of restricted highway access in the US and Canada.
Lobster revived
The Hummer and SUV are manufactured in a Detroit assembly plant. This is the first Hummers since GM discontinued the well-known, hospitable versions of the vehicles in 2010.
GM president Mark Reuss earlier told CNBC that the decision to revive Hummer for EVs was taken after a discussion between him, Mary Barra, CEO, and at least one other CEO in early 2019 about the proposal of Hummer for a new generation of buyers.
“We just wanted to do it. We saw the opportunity for trucks,” Reuss said during GM’s EV Day earlier this year. “We always wanted to do it with Hummer, but it had so much baggage from a gas-blown point of view, and that’s why we turned it on its head.”
The Hummer pickups, which GM calls a sports utility vehicle or CUT, will be the first vehicle with the next-generation electric vehicle platform and batteries from the carmaker according to a $ 27 billion plan to switch to electric and autonomous vehicles by 2025.
