As if the delays caused by, among other things, the COVID-19 pandemic last year were not enough, the C8 Corvette experienced another setback as the chain problems forced the company to stop production.
The report appeared on Corvette Forum, where one customer sent an email notifying him that the vehicle he ordered via the National Corvette Museum delivery program would be delayed.
By post:
BGAP (Bowling Green Assembly Plant) has just announced a suspension of production for the week of 2/1 due to issues in the supply chain. Due to recent delays and this downtime, the new expected completion date of your car is 2/12. If your provisional preliminary appointment does not fall at least two weeks after this date, we will need to reschedule.
The R8C Museum Delivery program is a $ 1,000 option that allows customers to pick up their vehicle at the National Corvette Museum, which happens to be next to the Bowling Green Corvette assembly plant. There, they get a guided tour of the museum, a presentation on their vehicle, a personalized courtyard, and more.

Chevrolet, meanwhile, confirmed to Corvette Blogger that the delay would affect all production at Bowling Green and that the delay would last a week.
“Bowling Green Assembly will not be produced the week of February 1,” Chevrolet wrote. “Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to reduce any further impact on production, and we expect the plant to start up again on Monday, February 8.”
This is the third shutdown due to supply problems since the plant reopened in May 2020 after a two-month outage due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the last of which occurred in October.
