GM Gackerekunst, Packers, Attended Florida State Pro Day

Jim Bowy, executive director of the Senior Bowl, confirmed Monday that Brian Gutekunst, GM, Green Bay Packers, attended the pro day. Gutekunst was able to explore a wide range of prospects, including cornerback Asante Samuel Jr, edge rusher Josh Kaindoh, receiver Tamorrion Terry, defensive line Marvin Wilson, edge rusher Janarius Robinson and safety Hamsah Nasirildeen.

Gutekunst was able to see firsthand what this year’s Seminoles class brings to the table in terms of their official dimensions and how well they move on the field.

One player who got stuck was wide receiver Tamorrion Terry. He fits the shape almost perfectly for the type of receiver that Green Bay would like to aim for in the concept, in terms of size and speed. Terry measured 6-2 and 207 and ran a 4.44 in the 40-yard line. He also has an impressive arm length of 33.375 inches.

There were other notable numbers that came out of the pro-day state of Florida. Wilson’s wingspan is 81,125 inches. Robinson had an impressive wing span of 86.25 inches and 25 teams on the bench press. Meanwhile, Kaindoh showcased his athleticism by running a forty of 4.70 and recording a wide jump of 10 feet 5 inches.

Of course, Gutekunst Samuel probably kept a close eye on. There is a lot of noise surrounding the son of former Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel and what he would look like with Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander.

Samuel has a slight build, stands at 5-10 and weighs only 180 pounds. He ran a 4.45 in the forties, but struggled in the three-cone drill. Samuel only ran a 6.95, which is considered a little below average for an NFL corner. Alexander’s three-throat time was a little faster at 6.71, while Kevin King was a 6.56.

Samuel and Alexander, however, have similar builds and other athletic tests that compare favorably. They have the same vertical jump of 35 inches and a wide jump that differs by only a few inches.

During his media availability, Samuel was asked about his size and playing inside or outside the NFL. In his answer, he refers to Alexander’s greatness and determination as a corner outside.

“I played outside all my life. I feel like I’m a dominant corner on the outside. I’m the same size as Jaire Alexander. Size does not matter. “It’s about the heart and dog mentality on the field,” he said.

Samuel could be targeted by Green Bay with their 29th pick, or they could hope he falls on them in the second round. Most draft upgrades have Samuel as a late first or early second player.

However, Samuel received a RAS score of 6.42 by Kent Lee Platte, which is usually lower than what the Packers were looking for. If Green Bay does not like the film of Samuel Jr., they can focus their attention on another angle with a better athletic profile.

Gutekunst is clearly drawing attention to this year’s prospects after a shortened 2020 season. Gutekunst also attended Clemson’s pro day on March 11 and will likely attend many more.
