Glow squid arrive in Minecraft snapshot

It’s been years since I played Minecraft on a regular basis, but I still enjoy it when new features and creatures start appearing in the game. This undoubtedly means that the always creative Minecraft players will find unexpected ways to use it. The latest Minecraft snapshot adds a few more parts from the upcoming Caves & Cliffs update, including the beautiful glowing squid and their glowing ink.

Mojang’s update notes for screenshot 21w03A explain what’s possible with the new glow squid and their ink. They are meant to live in deep dark caves, but Mojang says they will not naturally spawn in this screenshot. For now, you need to create a creative world and use spawn eggs to evoke it.

Of course I found a dark little pond and dropped a whole handful of it and they are pretty pretty. They even make a sweet sound as they float around.

The shiny new squid also do not believe in the new update. Glow moss has also been added, a plant light source that can be found and harvested with scissors in caves.

When you kill a glowing squid, they drop glowing ink bowls with which you can make the text visible from afar. Apparently it can even be colored for extra flair. I’m already interested in seeing what glowing exhibits players think.

As always, Mojang is leading to their Caves & Cliffs update by making new additions in photos that players can try ahead of time. In other screenshots so far, they have added copper and amethyst blocks, as well as the axolotls that everyone is so excited about. Beware, axolotls will attack glowing squid, so do not let them hang out.

If you want to meet the squid yourself, you want to load the Minecraft charger and select ‘latest snapshot’ in your installation tab. It must be marked 21w03A.
