Global Covid-19 mortality rate exceeds 3 million as cases increase

With 566,224 deaths, the US has the highest number of deaths, followed by Brazil with 368,749 and Mexico with 211,693.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday that the pandemic was at a ‘critical point’ and warned that the world needed a reality check. After a brief decline in March, the number of deaths worldwide increased again, with an average of about 12,000 deaths, reaching the daily death toll of 14,500 (7-day moving average) recorded at the end of January.
Countries such as the US and the UK have seen their number of new daily deaths due to vaccinations fall since the end of January, while India and Brazil are facing unprecedented increases in infections.
WHO is asking for 'reality check' as global cases of Covid-19 increase for the seventh week
In Brazil, about 3,000 deaths are reported every day, accounting for nearly a quarter of the deaths reported daily in the world. The country has been hit the hardest worldwide in terms of new daily deaths since early March.

The pandemic shows no signs of slowing as the 7-day moving average approaches the daily highs of January – more than 730,000 daily new cases are reported this week.

With 234,692 new infections reported on Saturday, India has nearly three times the daily cases of the US.

India also reported 1,341 deaths on Saturday, the highest death toll per day, except on June 17. On that day, June 17, a total of 2,003 deaths were recorded in one day as a result of clerk errors that resulted in a backlog.

According to JHU, there are 140 million cases of Covid-19 worldwide.
