‘Glacier Bro’ is believed to have died after falling into icy water

A Chinese influencer, known as ‘Glacier Bro’, is thought to have died after being last seen on video and losing his balance near icy waters in Tibet.

Wang Xiangjun – who made an online acquisition by visiting videos of glaciers – explored a waterfall when he disappeared on December 20 in Lhari County in northern Tibet, reports BBC.

Footage posted on Chinese social media platforms showed the 30-year-old slipping near the base of the waterfall into the fast-flowing, icy waters, the outlet reported.

Local authorities said they had launched search efforts but could not find him yet.

However, one local official involved in the efforts said it was ‘almost impossible’ for the influencer to survive.

“He could be under an ice whistle. The water is 10 to 20 meters (32 to 65 feet) deep, “the official told China’s state-run Global Times.

His brother posted a statement on Wang’s social media accounts to confirm his death, the Independent reported.

“My brother lies forever in his favorite waterfall,” reads the message.

“He had been obsessed with glaciers all his life while devoting himself to it, and it was the best place for him to rest,” he continued.
