Giuliani does not currently represent Trump ‘in any lawsuits,’ says adviser

The former mayor of New York was the face of Trump’s failed attempt to block the presidential election results, but his legal work with the former president dates back years.

Miller has in a tweet that Giuliani has remained an ‘ally and a friend’ and not just represent Trump because there are no pending issues in which he is involved.
Trump expressed frustration with Giuliani last month after becoming the first president in U.S. history to be charged twice. He told his staff to stop paying Giuliani’s legal costs, a person previously familiar with CNN told CNN.
Trump is now out of office and without the protection the presidency has offered him, Trump faces several criminal investigations, civil investigations and defamation cases by two women accusing him of sexual assault.
Georgia officials have announced that the former president is facing two new investigations into calls he made to election officials in an attempt to overturn the state’s election results.

And Trump is facing a criminal investigation in New York, where the Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating whether the Trump organization is violating state laws, such as insurance fraud, tax fraud or other schemes to defraud.

The scope of the investigation is wide-ranging, with prosecutors looking at, among other things, whether the Trump organization misled financial institutions when they applied for loans or violated tax laws when they donated a conservation relaxation on his estate called Seven Springs and deductions took on fees paid consultants.

The former president also expressed concern about whether he could stand trial on charges following the January 6 riots in the U.S. Capitol that he accused several people of.

“He’s worried about it,” one adviser close to Trump told CNN.

Although Giuliani is one of Trump’s fiercest public defenders, his work on behalf of the former president has caused his own legal problems.

Mississippi Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson on Tuesday filed a civil lawsuit accusing Giuliani and Trump of conspiring with far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to incite the January 6 uprising.

According to the lawsuit, Giuliani stirred up the crowd when he told supporters, “Let’s we hear through a fight.”

In addition, Giuliani is facing lawsuits against two voice technology companies, Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, in connection with his months-long embrace of unfounded conspiracy theories over the 2020 election.

EXPLANATION: The headline of this story has been updated to explain that Rudy Giuliani does not currently represent the former president.
