Girl from Georgia, 7, dies after shooting Christmas shopping with family: report

A seven-year-old Georgian girl died Saturday night from injuries sustained during a shooting earlier in the week while shopping with her family at Christmas.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kennedy Maxie was shot in the back of the head while driving with her mother and aunt near Phipps Plaza in Atlanta.

The aunt, who was behind the wheel at the time, allegedly continued to drive to the gunfire until she ‘noticed that the victim was acting strangely’. She realized the girl had been hit and rushed her to a hospital, where she was rushed to surgery.

“Our hearts are broken by the senseless assassination of Kennedy,” Keisha Lance Bottoms, the city’s mayor, told the newspaper. She said the city’s police force was striving for ‘significant clues’, but said it did not alleviate the family’s pain.
