According to local reports, a ten-year-old girl has been declared brain dead in Italy after trying the so-called “Blackout Challenge” on TikTok.
The dangerous game – also known as the “passout challenge” and “the flainting game” – dares participants to choke themselves until they pass for a few seconds.
But the challenge became tragic when the child, who was tying a belt around her neck, accidentally suffocated, reports the Italian news agency ANSA.
The girl was rushed to a hospital in Palermo on Thursday. She arrived in cardiac arrest and was soon pronounced brain dead by doctors.
Her parents gave permission for their daughters’ organs to be donated, ANSA reported, indicating that she would be removed from livelihood soon.
Experts have warned that the trend is dangerous and can cause fainting, brain damage and seizures.
