Gilgamesh movie produced by Fortnite Creator

It has been announced that an animated film entitled Gilgamesh is underway. Fortnite’s Epic Games will be one of the main supporters of the project.

An animated movie titled Gilgamesh is in development of the Latin American film studio Hook Up with Fortnite the game developer Epic Games investing in the project. Epic Games also offers their Unreal Engine technology as the animation hub on which the film will be created. Unreal Engine was recently used in both The Mandalorian and Westworld for the creation of virtual sets and visual experiences, both of which are equally astonishing and believable.

According to Deadline, the film will follow the life, adventures and tragedies of the legendary Gilgamesh, who served as inspiration for the famous stories Odyssey and Ilias. The main plot is about Gilgamesh in search of immortality, his rocky relationship with frenemy Enkidu (reminiscent of the relationship between Frodo and Sam), and how this old Indiana Jones-like character became a demigod.

Entering the world of feature films for the first time, Epic Games seems to be the next logical step for the company, especially with all the photo-realistic work their game engine has already delivered to popular television shows. By helping Unreal create content, Epic can grow into a multi-platform enterprise and become more than just a video game and software development company. While an animated film like Gilgamesh it’s in the same vein as a Pixar movie might not be a big step; it will open more doors for them if the film is successful, which it probably will be.
