Gigantic Lizard climbs supermarket shelves in gruesome video

A recent shopping spree has taken a frightening turn for one unhappy group of 7-Eleven customers in Thailand. In a scene directly from a monster movie, a huge lizard invaded the establishment and destroyed the store.

Recorded in a video – apparently first posted by Jejene Narumpa on Facebook – patrons of the store were shocked when they saw a giant, reptilian creature sliding through the hallways.

The lizard, backed into a corner, then begins to scale down a set of shelves. As it climbs onto the shelves, rows and rows of neatly stacked products tilt to the ground. The lizard, which is apparently a few meters long, manages to climb to the very top shelf, just inches from the ceiling, while customers watch in awe and disbelief.

If it leaves a big mess behind, it looks like the lizard is sitting comfortably on the top shelf and swinging its tongue.

According to UNILAD, the creature is an Asian water monitor lizard, a species commonly found in the area. They are reportedly known for their scavenger tendencies and often eat the decayed meat of dead animals.

Animalia, an online encyclopedia for animals, adds that Asian lizards for water monitoring are some of the world’s largest reptiles. The semi-aquatic creatures are known for their powerful jaws and legs, in addition to their excellent climbing ability, as evidenced by Narumpa’s disturbing video.

On Twitter, users are sharing their hilarious reactions to the 7-Eleven ordeal, which was shared by several outlets on the platform.

“Is he doing a promo for the movie Godzilla vs Kong?” asked a user.

Another commenter noted that “perhaps in the future they should place the lizard’s favorite food on the bottom shelf.”

Others expressed concern about the creature. “Poor animal, must have been terrified,” wrote one concerned viewer. “I hope they did not kill it.”

Currently there is no information available on the lizard’s status.

Because monitor lizards are relatively common, this incident is not the first time one has crawled into the human world.

In 2017, a lizard of crocodile monsters mysteriously appears in the backyard of a California man. Since the species is native to New Guinea, officials believe the lizard is someone’s illegal pet that escaped.

A few years before that, in 2015, Bangkok tourists saw a giant lizard with a water monitor running along the city’s sewer system, just below a sidewalk.
