Giants ‘Patrick Graham Rejects Jets’ Maintenance Request, Contracts Signed Extension | What now for Joe Douglas in coaching search?

So much for Giants defense coordinator Patrick Graham jumping to the Jets.

Graham, who impressed in 2020 while leading an undermining defense, is clearly a valuable part of head coach Joe Judge’s staff.

And while Graham is likely to eventually get some serious head coaching, he will not be the Jets’ replacement for Adam Gase in 2021. The Jets requested an interview with Graham before signing this contract extension.

Graham was one of six candidates who asked the Jets for permission to maintain as Joe Douglas, general manager, leads the search.

Here are the other five, including the interest they received from other teams in this appointment cycle:

– Matt Eberflus, Colts defense coordinator (Texans, Chargers)

– Arthur Smith, Attacking Coordinator of the Titans (Chargers, Jaguars, Lions, Falcons, Texans)

– Eric Bieniemy, Offensive Coordinator of Chiefs (Falcons, Lions, Chargers, Jaguars)

– Brian Daboll, Offensive Coordinator of Bills (Chargers)

– Brandon Staley, Rams defense coordinator (Chargers)

The Jets have yet to conduct interviews to replace Gase, but Douglas said Tuesday he expects interviews to begin soon.

Unlike the other five candidates, Graham, other than the Jets, had no other interest as head coach.
