Spring and early summer tent poles are on the move due to the ongoing pandemic and widespread theater closures.
The box dominoes fall – again.
Minutes after MGM announced late Thursday that it was printing No time to die From April to October, Sony announced a series of high-profile changes to its spring and summer calendars amid the ongoing pandemic and uncertainty about when movie traffic will resume in earnest.
Will Gluck’s Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway moves from April 2 to June 11, while Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: The Hereafter is pushed from June 11 to November 11. The films are Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
Kay Cannon’s Cinderella, which would open on February 5, will now appear on July 16. Camila Cabello stars.
Sony has further revealed that it is pushing Unknown from 2021 completely. The adaptation of the video game, in which Tom Holland plays the treasure hunter Nathan Drake, moves from July 16 to February 11, 2022. The film is shown in Imax and large premium format screens, and Mark Wahlberg also plays.
And a few hours after the initial announcements, the studio pushed back Morbius, the Jared Leto movie based on the Marvel character. It opens on January 21, 2022, from October this year, a few months.
