The Watatsumi shrine gate was partially destroyed by a typhoon in September 2020, and repairs are scheduled to begin in April 2021, although pandemic-related delays could delay the process. The creator of the project thanks the fans of the game for their contributions in one of the activity reports as the campaign progressed. A memorial stone will bear the names of all who pledged more than 10,000 yen (approximately $ 95 USD / £ 71 / $ 125 AUD).
Torii gates are commonly used to mark the entrance to a Shinto temple, and have even helped inspire the creation of Star Fox. Watatsumi Shrine is located in Toyotama, one of the three regions found in Ghost of Tsushima.
