Gerry Adams has launched his latest bid for Irish Unity, this time in the form of a chocolate egg.
In a video shared on Twitter, the former Sinn Féin president unveiled a “very, very, very special package we put together at considerable cost” – a chocolate egg wrapped in a sheet of paper that says # Time4Unity.
Adams said: “While honoring our patriot to death, and it is very, very important that we do so and we remember the sacrifices of all those generations, and especially the men and women of our own time, and also the men and women of 1916 … Easter is also about Easter eggs.
‘What better way to unite the people of Ireland than to unite Ireland’s Easter egg? Let me tell you, even unions like Easter eggs. ”

Adams and his long-term ally and press officer, Richard McAuley, earlier released Valentine’s Day and St Patrick’s Day tickets as part of their Uniting Ireland project.
He said it was a “cross-community, the whole of Ireland, the whole island Easter egg”, and included a proclamation and Easter lily. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, there is a limited supply, and the eggs are only available in Belfast, Adams said.
Some Twitter users accuse Adams of contempt for announcing the news on the 28th anniversary of the deaths of 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Jonathan Ball, who were killed by an IRA bomb in Warrington. More than 50 people were injured in the attack, for which no one has ever been prosecuted.
