Georgian prisoner escapes from prison

According to the Sheriff’s Department in Telfair County, Robert C. Lee, 42, escaped from the garden on Friday afternoon.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities believe he may be heading to the Jacksonville area because he has family in the area. He was initially arrested in Jacksonville on the basis of a Georgia warrant for armed robbery.

Deputies, U.S. Marshals, Georgia State Patrol and other agencies are looking for Lee. He was last seen wearing gray shorts and a white T-shirt. He is 6′3 ″ and weighs 175 pounds. He has a tattoo of a chessboard on his left arm and a game board on his right.

According to Duval court documents, Lee had previously escaped from prison – in 2001 when he was locked up for large-scale theft.

His previous records also show that he served a pregnant victim in Florida jail time due to a serious battery. His most recent charge is to pay counterfeit bills in 2013.

News4Jax crime and security expert Ken Jefferson said if Lee returned to the Jacksonville area, he would probably not stay long because police would be looking for him here. Telfair County is about three hours from Jacksonville.

“For people who live in Jacksonville and know him and know that he lived near them, they need to be especially careful,” Jefferson said.

News4Jax spoke to Lee’s mother on Saturday and learned she was on the phone with the sheriff on Saturday morning. She said she did not know where he was.

Anyone who sees Lee is asked to call 911 immediately.
