Georgia Tech will be the leading scorer and ACC player of the year, Moses Wright, without the leading scorer, when the no. 9 selected yellow jackets suit Loyola Chicago in eighth place in the NCAA Tournament, according to a report by Jeff Goodman of the stadium and confirmed by CBS Sports. Playing without Wright will be a crushing blow for Georgia Tech as it makes its first NCAA tournament since 2010 on the program.

Wright is the most important man on the team at 6-foot-9 and would be assigned to keep Loyola Chicago center Cameron Krutwig, a third All-American AP, leading the Ramblers in the scoring. Wright has been particularly influential in Georgia Tech’s last six games in the regular season, as he scored 23.5 points and ten rebounds per game to send the Yellow Jackets with momentum into the post-season.

Georgia Tech last week won its first ACC tournament title since 1993 to secure an NCAA tournament offer – though the Yellow Jackets would also make the big dance as a big team.

Wright, a senior, was a high school prospect who progressed steadily in his four seasons at Georgia Tech to become one of the ACC’s most effective players over the past two seasons. His progress reflects the development of Georgia Tech as a program under fifth-year coach Josh Pastner. The yellow jackets lost to Pastner last season in the second and third years, before concluding strongly last season to tackle the momentum from 2020 to 211.

The winner of the Loyola Chicago-Georgia Tech game is likely to face Illinois in the second round on Sunday.
