Georgia hosts dramatic Peach Bowl return, shatters Cincinnati’s undefeated dreams

The University of Georgia scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including a 53-goal field goal from Jack Podlesny to beat the University of Cincinnati 24-21 in the Peach Bowl to beat the Bearcats’ hopes of a perfect season end.

The Bulldogs kicked the field goal to play a 44-year-old ride of eight, starting with five consecutive rounds from quarterback JT Daniels. He throws a 4-yard pass to John FitzPatrick to get Georgia to the Cincinnati 36-yard line before throwing two incomplete passes, followed by a field goal.

The field goal would give the Bulldogs a 22-21 lead with 3 seconds left. Georgia secured a safety on Cincinnati to add two more points to its final score.

Daniels finished 26-for-38 with 392 passing yards, a pass rate and an interception. George Pickens got the lone attack. He finishes with seven catches for 135 yards.

Podlesny scored two field goals in the fourth quarter and Zamir White ran for a 9-yard dash to help the return.

Cincinnati ends its season with one loss. The Bearcats were 21-10 ahead at the end of the third quarter.

MISSISSIPPI STATE, TULSA ENDED ARMED FORCES WITH BIG BRAWL

Desmond Knight was 24-for-37 with 206 passing yards and two passes for the Bearcats. Jerome Ford ran for 97 yards and an attack to lead all ball carriers. Josh Whyle and Alec Pierce both got a touchdown.

For Podlesny, this is the longest field goal of his collegiate career. The second year was 76.9% in field goal attempts with his previous long 51 yards.

Georgia is now on a two-game winning streak. Cincinnati ended the 2020 season 9-1 and their two-game winning streak was broken.
