Georgia District Attorney investigating Trump hires lawyers with expertise in racketeering cases

John Floyd is expected to assist the district attorney’s office with various cases in the white-collar, gang and public corruption units, said Jeff DiSantis, a spokesman for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

Two people familiar with his appointment said he was not specifically detained for investigating Trump’s call after the election with Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

“He was generally retained because of his expertise on racketeering – not for any particular case,” DiSantis said.

Floyd declined to comment. Reuters first reported on his appointment.

Floyd would be an asset if Willis decided to pursue a complicated hooliganism case against Trump. This is one of the possible charges she’s investigating, according to the document preservation requests Willis sent last month.

Willis’ office has not yet determined how it will structure the team investigating the former president. According to a person familiar with the investigation, they are actively seeking more expertise from outside.
