Genl. Keane: No president has ‘informed and advised’ Americans about what is happening in the Middle East

Gen. Jack Keane told Fox News Primetime on Tuesday that he found the president’s decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan “disgraceful” and “reckless,” and that no U.S. president had done a good job of getting the “U.S. to keep people informed ‘.

GEN. JACK KEANE: I fundamentally disagree with President Trump announcing a withdrawal on May 1, although he did keep in mind that there would be certain conditions before the United States would withdraw, and that would be, hopefully we would. ‘ a peace deal negotiated between the Afghan government and the Taliban, as well as a ceasefire. We have none of that, we have deadlock and negotiations. And second, the Taliban has increased the level of violence in the country itself. The Taliban therefore see that there is political weakness in the United States with regard to an intention to stay, and that they have obviously taken advantage of the situation. I think this decision is wrong because it is reckless and also shameful …

The terrorists did not leave the battlefield … we do not keep the American people informed and are advised, it goes on. None of our presidents have ever done well. And the facts are, they’re still out there. And like I said, I think what we did and what we grew up with is a very specific and focused threat to just the groups that want to hurt America and the American people. And it is a modest commitment to do so. And that’s a complete distortion of the conversation about this great war in which we are involved in Afghanistan, that is just not the case.
