General Motors (GM) has indicated in 2035 when it plans to halt production of all diesel and petrol-powered cars worldwide.

Instead of emitting exhaust fumes from the exhaust pipe, the firm will only sell electric vehicles – and will make a new range available for the event.

The American carmaker made the announcement on Thursday as part of its strategy to become carbon neutral by 2040, which also includes the use of 100 percent renewable energy at production facilities.

The move comes weeks after GM changed its corporate logo and launched an electric vehicle marketing campaign to reform its image as a clean business.

The trade in gas veils for electric vehicles has been a major topic for the past few years and two U.S. states, California and Massachusetts, have committed to making the switch by 2035.

GM is the first carmaker to emerge and its shares rose 7.4 percent on Thursday morning – it now has a market capitalization of about $ 73 billion.

The company will release 30 all-electric models worldwide by the middle of the decade, and by the end of 2025, 40 percent of the U.S. models offered will be battery-powered electric vehicles.

The EV will also be available at various price points to satisfy the general public.
