Gazelle’s used trade-in program ends next year

Longtime used smartphone buyer Gazelle has announced the coming end of its trade-in program, which accepts people’s old iPhones, iPads and Macs in exchange for cash.

Gazelle

The company announced the news in an email to customers and explained that from 1 February 2021, it will no longer offer its trade-in option. Customers have until January 31 to get a price and complete an exchange, while anyone who has already started an exchange can expect it to continue normally.

From 1 February 2021, we will no longer be offering our trade-in option on Gazelle. If you currently have a trade-in, you will trade-in as planned. You can also still log in to your account to see the status of your current exchanges.

You will still be able to buy used high quality electronics for a fraction of the price in our online store. We are excited to help you further save with great prices on used smart devices!

In the future, Gazelle plans to focus on its in-store ecoATM kiosks, which offer instant cash for devices, though usually not offering as much in return as customers would get through traditional trade-in programs.

The ecoATMs can be found in more than 4,000 locations in the United States, and the company says the kiosks have collected more than 25 million devices, equivalent to more than 6 million pounds of e-waste.

Gazelle gave no reason for its decision to discontinue its trade-in program, but several competing services have become popular in recent years, including eBay’s Instant Selling service and Apple’s own trade-in program for Apple and other devices in exchange for credit. for a new Apple Store purchase.

(Thanks, Kenneth!)
