Andrew Eyster and the Gamecocks did it again and walked off the Tigers under the last innings.
One day after winning 3-2 on a starting single by Eyster in 11th place, Eyster stroked a single streak to reach the winning run in ninth place, when no. 17 South Carolina defeated Clemson 8-7 on Sunday afternoon. by Founders Park.
Clemson lightens Evan Estridge built-in runs out at two, but he awards the match winner to Eyster. South Carolina improved with the victory to 6-0 and won the season series. Clemson fell 3-2 on the loss. The final game of the series will be played on May 11 at Clemson’s Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Tigers wasted no time in jumping fast to a lead. Bryar Hawkins has a two-out run in the top of the first and comes to score on a double to left center through James Parker, which puts Clemson ahead 1-0.
The red-hot West Clarke scored him at a 1-1 pitch in third place to keep the score at 1-1, and it remains at the top of the fifth point.
Dylan Brewer runs a turn at a 3-2 pitch to lead from the innings, and Hawkins chose with one from the right to move Brewer to third place. Hawkins stole second with two outs, and Jonathan Frans followed by a two-way double to the right that gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
The lead did not last long when the Gamecocks chased the starter Ty Olenchuk at the bottom of the frame. Braylen Wimmer struggled to lead from the innings, and later in the innings Clarke fired a three-pointer to give the Gamecocks a 5-3 lead.
Olenchuk hit 4 1/3 overs, giving up two runs while not running one and hitting six. Illuminator Mat Clark gave up most of the damage, and scored for three runs in just 1 2/3 innings.
The seventh was a big turn for the Tigers. Davis Sharpe walks to distract from the innings but is forced on Hawker for the second time. Parker then selected the left field and French walked to load the base with one. Pinch hits Alex Urban was safe on a single Hawkins scored to make it 5-4.
Pinch hits Regan Reid threaded a single to the center and scored Frans and Parker to bring Clemson to 6-5. Max Wagner executed a perfect bat that Urban scored, and Clemson led 7-5.
The Gamecocks took advantage of a throwing error in the bottom half of the innings to score two runs, but tied the game at 7-7.
The Tigers were the beneficiaries of a happy break in the top of the ninth. Parker led the inning and hit a high fly to midfield, and it looked like the wind was moving the baseball enough to drop center Noah Myers for a foul.
French struck, but Urban had a single right-handed golf to put runners out in first and second place with one. The Gamecocks went to the bullpen and replaced Andrew Peters with Will Sanders. Reid achieves the choice of a fielder that forces Reid, but moves Parker to third place by two. A volleyball ended the threat, but the game was tied at 7-7.
South Carolina play Winthrop on Tuesday (the Gamecocks hosted the Eagles last week and won 12-4) and then host Mercer for a series of three games starting Friday. The Tigers will host East Tennessee Stadium on Tuesday at 4 p.m., and ACC will then play a home series in three games against Notre Dame on Friday.
