Game of the Year: # 2 – Final Fantasy VII Remake

GOTYFF7

Yep, that finally happened: 2020 was the year we got a remake of Final Fantasy VII. Well, Share of one, at least. It may not cover the full story, but Final Fantasy VII Remake carries his love of the original game as a tribute. It’s just as much a tribute to the classic Japanese film game as a remake, but those who have finished it will know that it’s somehow even more so.

From the brilliant combat system to the excellent soundtrack, Remake gets so many things right. It’s both a powerful nostalgia journey and a gripping adventure on its own, and it does a particularly wonderful job of portraying a cast of all beloved characters. This is a real achievement.

Now, we are not saying that Final Fantasy VII Remake is perfect – it certainly has a lot of the flaws – but it can not be denied the number of memorable moments it parades in front of the player. We will avoid spoiling any of these moments here, but there is no doubt that Remake has had a lasting impact on our view of Cloud and the company.

And that boss fights! It is fair to say that Remake of the biggest boss fights not only in 2020 but also on PS4 in general. We repeated the game several times, only to relive some of these encounters, and it also shows the strength of the title’s impressive combat system, which combines action with turn-based quests.

So much could have gone wrong with Final Fantasy VII Remake, but here we are looking at a true Game of the Year candidate. A good game and hopefully the start of something very special.

How we decide our game of the year: In December, our editorial team compiled a list of nominees for Game of the Year based on our own ratings and a variety of other factors. After much discussion, we cut the list of nominees and asked all staff from Push Square and the Push Square community to vote on their five favorites using a points system. The ten matches with the most points by the set deadline were then determined as our favorite of 2020.
