Galaxy Z Fold 2 One UI 3.1 update adds new features

Samsung’s work to improve foldability is currently mainly in hardware, but in recent years the company has also launched a bunch of new software features. With One UI 3.1, Samsung is adding some new features to Galaxy Z Fold 2, including a handy multitasking feature.

In a blog post, Samsung unveiled four new adaptations to the software on Galaxy Fold 2 that come with the next update. There is a new customization of video calling applications that allows users to put their phone in flex mode and show the top half of the screen only the video of the person they are talking to. In similar bending mode improvements, Samsung has adjusted the position of the controls, as well as adding the delete and share buttons to the preview area.

Interestingly, Samsung has also added a new ‘palm touch’ gesture that can eliminate the front cover or the main internal screen with a touch of the palm or a double tap. However, it must be activated manually.

The biggest new feature in this update is ‘Enhanced Multi-Active Window’. This extension of Samsung’s multitasking feature improves the way you can switch between applications. Now a collection of two or three apps will appear in the multitasking overview screen as one app instead of three, which also keeps the layout in place. These are especially the same features you see on iOS when using a split screen view on an iPad. Samsung has also added a multi-active window keyboard shortcut to the Quick Panel in One UI 3.1 on Galaxy Z Fold 2.

One UI 3.1 will soon start rolling out to Galaxy Z Fold 2.
