Galaxy S21 launches today: Watch the livestream of Samsung’s Unpacked event here

We are at the end of CES 2021 and Samsung decided to launch its next Galaxy S21 series, which consists of the S21, S21 Plus (and S21 Plus with 5G) and S21 Ultra, earlier than usual with an Unpacked event during the same busy week. So far, Samsung has launched its Galaxy Buds Pro and SmartTracker and started talking about the phones. But we also have a lot of information about the S21. Catch it even now, on Samsung’s YouTube page or its homepage, or here.

The new model is made of metal and harder glass for better durability, with a screen that supports customizable refresh between 48 and 120Hz and improved protection against low blue light. And of course a trio of better cameras and new photo processing equipment with AI. Better bokeh! Pet-specific mode! It adds multishot processing and white optimized white balance to your selfie options.

Samsung is holding its first Unpacked event of the year on January 14th.

Samsung

“Over the past year, mobile technology has become the center of everyday life as people work remotely and spend more time at home,” Samsung said. “The accelerated transition to a mobile first world brings with it the need for devices that can transform everyday life into an extraordinary experience.”

A January 14 date for Unpacked arrives earlier than usual for Samsung. In the past, the company typically unveiled its latest flagship phone in February, either before or during the Mobile World Congress, and then released it in March or even April.

Samsung will likely unveil three different models of its flagship phone on Thursday: the 6.2-inch S21, the 6.7-inch S21 Plus and the 6.8-inch S21 Ultra. The devices are expected to look largely the same, but larger camera modules, which increases their photo and video capabilities.

The company may also discontinue its Galaxy Note series this year and replace it with S Pen support on its Galaxy S21 Ultra. Early versions do not show a visible location for a stylus, which may mean that it should be kept separate from the phone when not in use. On Samsung’s popular but niche setup, the stylus slides into the device to store it.

Along with the Galaxy S21 series may be some other announcements from Samsung. The company is expected to launch new Galaxy Buds Pro Earplugs and physical tile-style smart locators, possibly called Galaxy Smart Tags, to help people track their possessions using BlueTooth. There have long been rumors that Apple is working on its own AirTags, but it has not yet announced anything in the arena.
