If you are a gamer, or just visiting The Cheapskate now and then you already know Epic Games give away a free game every Thursday. Every week is a new treat, with the past few weeks like gems like GTA 5, Borderlands 2, Hitman, Watch Dogs 2 and more. Last week’s release was Star Wars: Battlefront 2. If you missed it, do not make the same mistake two weeks in a row: Right now, you can Galactic Civilizations 3 free.
Galactic Civilizations 3 may not have the impressive appeal of Battlefront 2, but it’s a favorite with fans and critics alike. The 4X game (explore, expand, exploit and exterminate) is inspired by classic strategy games like Sid Meier’s Civilization series, but sets the game across an entire vast galaxy rather than one shaky planet.
You can play as a single player or do conquests containing up to 128 players. You can explore, establish worlds, defeat space armies and finally conquer all known space. Our friends at GameSpot found the game ‘great’ and concluded that ‘Galactic Civilizations’s focus is just where it needs to be – on excellent fundamentals. Progressive pace makes the enormous space comfortable and paradoxically personal, while the sheer number and variety of tools and options available to you enable you to succeed and win when you can think differently than everyone else. ‘
If you have not yet used Epic’s weekly gift, it works as follows: if you do not have one yet, sign up for your free Epic account. Then just get your free game – yours to last forever. You do not even have to install it right away if you do not want to.
