Rep. Matt Gaetz, R.-Fla., Who promised to fight allegations of sexual misconduct against him, urged on Twitter late Sunday to challenge a CNN report that he had a meeting with former President Trump in March. a-Lago is denied.
“This is a total lie. I am on a pre-planned vacation with my fiancée. I was welcomed to Trump Doral days ago. No such meeting has been denied or sought,” he tweeted. He cites the article’s “anonymous sources” and asked the network when he could expect a withdrawal.
The CNN report quotes “two people familiar with the matter” who said the tribute to the former president turned down a request from Gaetz and urged Trump not to get involved in the scandal. The report contains a statement from a Gaetz spokesman denying the congressman that he had requested a meeting last week.

CNN did not respond to Fox News’ requests for comment.
Gaetz was a longtime Trump ally and supporter.
Jason Miller, a close aide to Trump, called the CNN report “complete fake news.”
“There has never been such a schedule or meeting request made and therefore it could never have been refused. Note that this story contains no sources on the record. It was literally made up,” he added.
He also demanded a complete revocation.
Gaetz is being investigated for his potential involvement in sex trafficking, The New York Times reported, as well as allegations of payments to women for sex. The investigation into sex trafficking stems from allegations that he paid a 17-year-old girl to fly across state borders for sexual relations.
Gaetz hired a legal team to fight the “unfounded allegations” against him as the Justice Department investigated the allegations of sex trafficking against young people. So far no charges have been filed against him.

“Matt has always been a fighter,” a Gaetz spokesman said in a statement to Fox News on Friday.
Gaetz said on Friday: “The smears against me range from mere distortions in my personal life to wild – and I mean wild – conspiracy theories. I will not be intimidated by a lying media, and I will not be blackmailed by a former “Do not. Official and the crooks he works with. The truth will prevail.”
