Future Nokia smartphones may adopt a new naming scheme

A numeric trademark scheme was used for Nokia smartphones since the brand re-entered the market in 2017. It worked well in the early years, but has become quite confusing lately and may be replaced soon.

The Nokia G10 is perhaps the first model with a new name

According to a reliable source (via NokiaPowerUser), launches HMD Global Nokia smartphones following a revised branding scheme that includes both letters and numbers. The end result should be similar to what Samsung and Motorola do with their devices. In fact, a leaked retail listing from Russia indicates that the first new model may be the Nokia G10, not to be confused with Motorola’s Moto G10.

With subsequent model generations, HMD Global has two distinct options. The most obvious is to increase the number, starting with the Nokia G11 in 2022 and continuing the pattern for the rest of the decade.

However, it seems that the source of this information suggests that HMD may be following the branding pattern that Nokia used between 2009 and 2011. This could lead to models like the Nokia G10-01 in 2022 and Nokia G10-02 in 2023.

Whether Nokia’s new brand scheme will be clearer than the current one remains to be seen, but it will certainly not be difficult to achieve.

At the moment, the latest model is known as the Nokia 5.4. But at the same time, the company sells the Nokia 8.3 5G and Nokia 7.2, in addition to carrying variants such as the Nokia C2 Tava and Nokia 2 V Tella, which makes it quite difficult to determine when each model was introduced.
