Rep.-Elected Luke Letlow, who died of complications related to COVID-19 days before he was to be sworn in, was laid to rest on Saturday in Monroe, La.
LUKE LETLOW: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE LATE ELECTED CONGRESSOR
Letlow, 41, is remembered as a man who loved people and felt called to serve others. More than 200 people gathered at North Monroe Baptist Church for the memorial.
U.S. Representative Ralph Abraham appointed Letlow as chief of staff during his tenure in Washington and later supported Letlow’s offer to Congress. Abraham remembers Letlow as a friend and a “true servant.”
He also encouraged friends and family to plant a tree in Letlow’s memory so they can remember him and see how it grows.
The Republican won the election in Louisiana’s 5th district. He announced on December 18 that he had tested positive for the virus and was admitted to a hospital the next day.
Days later, Letlow was transferred to LSU Health Shreveport in critical condition and on Tuesday he “apparently suffered a heart attack” that caused his death, Dr. GE Ghali, Shreveport, told NOLA.com.
