Fujifilm announces XF 27mm f / 2.8 pancake lens

Fujifilm has announced a new pancake prime lens for the X-System: the XF 27mm f / 2.8 R WR lens. The most important feature of the compact size is that the lens, despite its compressed design, still promises high image quality.

The 27mm f / 2.8 is one of the thinnest and lightest lenses of Fujifilm and has a diameter of 62 mm (2.44 inches) and is only 23 mm (0.91 inches) long and weighs only 84 grams.

The lens has a diaphragm ring with an f-stop scale, so you can visually check and adjust the aperture without having to use the viewfinder or camera screen, which is probably appreciated by Fujifilm users. The diaphragm ring also contains the A (Auto) position lock, which locks the lens in the A position to prevent unintentional adjustments of the diaphragm.

Despite being small, it is still weatherproof. Fujifilm says that weather resistance has been applied to the lens in seven places to protect against water and dust and to make it work fully in temperatures as low as -10 ° C.

Somewhat unusual for a pancake lens, the 27mm f / 2.8 comes with the standard lens cap with a dome-shaped lens and hood.

The lens consists of seven elements in five groups, including one aspherical element that, according to Fujifilm, softens spherical aberration, field curvature and distortion. As a result, the company promises ‘amazing image resolution’, even with its open opening.

“Since the diameter of the image circle required to cover an APS-C sensor (28.4 mm) is as large as the focal length of XF 27mm f / 2.8,” the company writes. “The lens delivers unique, high-quality photos and boasts an incredibly compact design.”

The XF27mm f / 2.8 R WR is expected to be available in March at $ 400.
