FromSoftware issues new statement on Elden Ring development

After being silent about the game for most of the year, developer FromSoftware is giving a statement on the upcoming title Elden Ring.

One of the biggest announcements of E3 2019 was the unveiling of Elden Ring, a new game by renowned developer FromSoftware released in collaboration with Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin. Virtually nothing was revealed Elden Ring since the first unveiling, and many fans have become impatient. However, FromSoftware has finally broken the silence with a message on social media thanking fans and possibly teasing news for 2021.

FromSoftware’s marketing and communications manager Yasuhiro Kitao recently posted a statement on Twitter thanking fans for supporting the studio and Elden Ring. Kitao specifically thanked those who helped Elden Ring wins the Most Expected Game Award at The Game Awards 2020. This made the FromSoftware team ‘very motivated’ and Kitao said the studio could ‘unimaginably continue with development’.

In a follow-up tweet, Kitao referred to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, rumors claimed this Elden Ring has been delayed due to COVID-19, but nothing has been officially announced about it. Either way, Kita ended the post with the caption “See you in 2021”, which led to a speculation from fans that some are fresh Elden Ring news may finally come at some point in the new year.

This is one of the only statements made by FromSoftware Elden Ring all year round. FromSoftware’s silence on Elden Ring led to rumors that the action RPG had been canceled, but the studio did issue a statement backing the claims, confirming that it was still actively developing as its next title. Other than that, the studio was pretty quiet about the game and its progress.

While FromSoftware still does not do much for Elden Ring news or updates lately, Xbox chief Phil Spencer has given some insight into the title. In fact, Spencer claims he played Elden Ring, and went so far as to describe the game as the most ambitious title of Hidetaka Miyazaki to date. Considering Miyazaki’s impressive library of work, this is a bold statement, and it will certainly be interesting to see if the game meets the hype.

Spencer’s comments suggest Elden Ring is playable, so all indications are that development is going smoothly. A recent rumor has gone so far that it is alleged Elden Ring has completed development and has a game similar to the Dark souls series, but this has yet to be proven. For now, fans need to keep their fingers crossed that a new Elden Ring trailer will fall sometime in 2021.

Elden Ring is currently being developed for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
