Sony is taking the surprising step of releasing one of the free PlayStation Plus games for April 2021 a few months in advance.
Sony has taken a little longer than usual this month to launch the next series of free PS Plus games. However, many agree that it was worth the wait, as the free PS Plus games for March 2021 feature a total of four games, including the very award-winning players Final Fantasy 7 Remake, who is not even a year old yet. Although it took a while before Sony announced the free PS Plus games for March 2021, it wasted no time to give fans a taste of what they can expect from April’s series.
At the latest PlayStation State of Play event, Sony announced the first free PS Plus game for April 2021. Oddworld: Soulstorm on PS5 will be available to PS Plus subscribers when it launches on April 6th. The latest entry in the popular Oddworld franchise, Oddworld: Soulstorm is described by the developers as a 2.9D movie puzzle platformer and a remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.

Oddworld: Soulstorm was one of the first games to be introduced for Sony’s PlayStation 5 console, which fits in well with the original game being so closely linked to the PlayStation brand. Oddworld: Soulstorm on PS5 has some unique features that help it stand out from the other versions of the game, including superior graphics as well as support for DualSense controller.
With the PS5, Sony has made a habit of announcing free PS Plus games further in advance. It did so when it was announced Bugsnax as the first free PS Plus game for the PS5, and it did so with Destruction of AllStars. Just like that Oddworld: Soulstorm, Did PlayStation Plus subscribers know months in advance what to expect Destruction of AllStars to be one of their free games for February.
The other free PS Plus games for April 2021 are being kept secret for now, and are unlikely to be released until the end of April. However, fans can count on at least two PS4 games being added Oddworld: Soulstorm for April, and it’s possible that a free PlayStation VR game will be added to the mix as well. Sony is known to do this from time to time, with the latest example: the free PS Plus games for March 2021, including the PSVR exclusive Farpoint.
For now, PS Plus subscribers can still claim the free PS Plus games for February 2021. It contains the previously mentioned Destruction of AllStars on PS5, Management: Ultimate Edition, en Concrete Genie.
