The Indianapolis Colts have known for a month that they will find quarterback Carson Wentz in the trade of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Colts head coach Frank Reich and GM Ball Chris could not discuss the deal directly until it became official on Wednesday.

The shackles are now off and Reich spoke to Wentz in Indianapolis during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio on Wednesday night.

We are very excited about Carson, ”Said Reich, who coached Wentz for two years as the Eagles’ attacking coordinator before taking the Colts head coach position in 2018. ‘Of course I know him well, think very well of him as a player, as a teammate, you know as a leader what he can do for this team.

“We think he can make a big impact. He is very intelligent. He’s big, strong, can make all the throws on the field you have to make to be an NFL quarterback. But we have to play in ourselves, you know. We have to play our style of football, we have to grow every week. We just have a mantra here, just stay better. We are not going to concentrate on having crazy thoughts or goals or schedules about this or that. We’re just going to fight to get better every day. ”

Wentz has relegated the past two seasons and ended up in Philadelphia in favor of Jalen Hurts. After peaking at 69.6 in 11 starts in 2018, Wentz completed just 57.4 percent of his passes for the Eagles last season, with the most 15 interceptions.

Reich mentions that his current relationship with Wentz is something he believes will be beneficial in getting Wentz back on track and being successful with the Colts.

“Well, that will undoubtedly help,” Reich said. ‘I had a very close relationship with Philip [Rivers] and I think it really helped, just personally, just a belief just in the person right and the friendship, the real man-to-man friendship and camaraderie and the respect to fight to get better all the time, and the respect for who he was as a player. And Philip, you know, I know it and believed it, and I think the same would apply to Carson. It starts with mutual respect and who he is as a person and who he is as a player, and I’m just excited to work with him again. I think very strongly of him.

‘It was obviously a difficult year there in Philly and things were happening. This league is complicated, right. It’s hard. This is the NFL. And sometimes things happen and it’s best to get a clean and fresh start. I’m glad we were able to succeed with a win-win deal. I think the trade between us and the Eagles which in many ways was very fair. And we’m excited about it. We are excited about the new start with Carson, and what he can bring to this team. ”
