François Duvalier died 50 years ago and his dictatorship is in Haiti

Haití vive lo que algunos historiadores llaman ‘duvalierismo sin Duvalier’.

Some regimes are called, including, ‘neo-devilists’ by their superstitious violations of human rights.

“Duvalier instituted a totalitarian regime in Haiti”, affirmed on Efe by the Haitian historian Georges Michel.

According to him, in order to have a totalitarian regime, he must have a doctrinal and ideological component that could be launched by Duvalier.

“It’s a great intellectual and utilizes its capacity to make things worse,” Michel replied.

DUVALIER, FEROZ DICTADOR

“It is the only totalitarian regime that we have in the history of Haiti. It has dictatorships, but no totalitarian regimes”, said Michel, for whom “the practice of robbery and large-scale corruption” is a “legacy” of Duvalier that persiste hasta hoy.

This April 21st marks the 50th anniversary of the death in Puerto Príncipe of the medical and dictator Duvalier, addressed by Papa Doc. Gobernó Haití from 1957 to 1964 as president, and from 1964 until his death in 1971 as president vitalicio.

Illegal detentions, corruption and political persecution carry out the characteristics of their ancestors in power, which cost the lives of miles of Haitians and sent many more into exile.

Duvalier created a personal guard to direct the terror among the people, the “tonton macoutes” temples, charged with protecting the governor, persecuting, torturing and assassinating his opponents.

CAMBIO OF THE CONSTITUTION

“Every president who reads, elaborates or modifies the Constitution to be able to extend his term”, said Efe Auguste D’Méza, a political commentator and university professor who recorded that his “rare” presidents completed his mandate when ordering the Constitution.

In the last months he produced numerous demonstrations in Haiti against the referendum presented for the next month in June promoted by Moise to endorse the country of a “most adequate” Constitution.

The length of its history, Haiti has modified 23 times in its large map. To maintain the power, Duvalier modified several times the Constitution was established in that the power was hereditary and vital.

Thus, in 1971, a constitutional amendment was introduced to establish the continuity of power, allowing Jean-Claude Duvalier, 19, to take control of Gobierno’s death in April of this year.

Jean-Claude Duvalier mantuvo dictatorial herencia hasta that a popular revolt obliged to sell the country destined for France on February 7, 1986.

EL MYSTICISMO COMO HERRAMIENTA DESDE EL PODER

One of the “most powerful” elements inherited from the dictatorship of Duvalier is the practice of voodoo ceremonies, recalls Professor D’Méza.

To him, the Haitians seem to believe that their “luases” (spirits) are what they lead to power and that they use mysticism to maintain themselves in power.

“These practices are very present. Duvalier designed to corrode and integrate into the masons. The same hizo Michel Martelly and now Jovenel Moise”, assured.

For the cathedral “the use of mysticism is algo fuerte”, here Papa Doc hiciera creates the people who were an inmaterial.

En esto val saam met die historiador Michel, al afirmar que esto ne es exclusiv de los Duvalier. “All Haitian state women use mysticism in politics,” he said.

When it comes to power, Jean-Claude Duvalier says he wants to create a new economic class in the country.

The reason was that luchaba against oligarchy, recorded D’Meza. “Speeches against the oligarchs. Create a black bourgeoisie, as an alternative bourgeoisie, this is the son of Jean-Claude”, dijo.
