Fortnite: How to tame a bear or wolf

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 6, added a bunch of primordial elements to the Battle Royale map. These new elements include new challenges, crafts and wildlife that can be tamed during play. We’ve already covered weapon manufacturing in Fortnite, but if you want to tame a bear or hunt with a wolf, you can read our guide below to learn how.

How to tame piglets in Fortnite

Farmers are typically hostile to contact. You will not be able to befriend them by stepping up and petting them – at least not even. What you want to do is grab vegetables, such as corn, apples and cabbage, before walking to one of these animals.

Next, you want to toss some vegetables and wait until the bear (s) wander around. They give a translucent glow, indicating that they are interested in eating. Once they have started bullying, this is your chance to tame them. Simply step up and press the button / key to communicate.

Make sure you have enough vegetables before you try them out. The pigs eat really fast and become hostile again when all the food is gone. Throwing a bunch of food in one area on the ground is the best way to ensure you tame the animal on the first try.

How to Tame Wolves in Fortnite

Wolves are tamed in the same way, but the difference is that they prefer meat over vegetables. To get meat, you have to hunt some animals – wolves or otherwise – and pick up the meat they drop. Be careful though: taming a wolf after killing his suit can be tricky. It’s not that you can not tame them, but that they are more likely to give up the meat and attack you when they see that you are actively killing their family.

Where to find pigs and wolves in Fortnite

If you want to locate a wolf or a bear, stick to the upper parts of the map; more Boney Burbs or Weeping Woods and less Pleasant Park or Sweet Sands. Wolves roam the forests in those areas. Boars also do this (apparently) to a lesser extent.

That said, if you want to tame some pigs quickly, we recommend going to Colossal Crops. Not only do you find a group of pigs in a pen on the west side of the farm-like area, but also many crops. If you plan your approach just right, you should be able to tame several pigs within a few minutes.

If tamed, both wolves and pigs will follow you wherever you go. They will also attack nearby enemies, similar to the mercenary NPCs that roam the map. They can get stuck on obstacles (stay away from water) and sometimes get lost. It’s quite cool to be able to befriend animals this way. Who could not use a friend now?
