The developer behind the hugely popular Fortnite video game acquired a nearly 1 million-square-foot abandoned mall to serve as its new headquarters.
According to the Triangle Business Journal, Epic Games, the Cary Towne Center shopping center in its hometown of Cary, North Carolina, has purchased and will turn it into its new campus by 2024.
The 980,000-square-foot property is located about 3 miles from Epic’s current North Carolina headquarters and the company bought only $ 95 million to acquire. The 87-acre campus will include office buildings as well as recreational spaces.
Epic, which has 2,200 employees, said in a press release that the campus offers it “the flexibility to adapt a campus from the ground up to accommodate its long-term growth.”
Epic, which was at the center of a sensational battle with Apple over its App Store fees, also said it would work with the city as it plans the new development, and is likely to launch a Cary Community Recreation and $ 193 million retain. Sports center planned for the site.
