In her first interview since leaving the White House, McEnany also discussed her emotions during the January 6 attack on the American Capitol. She told Faulkner that she would expect a peaceful protest to take place while Congress met in a joint sitting to vote in the Electoral College. However, she watched in shock as participants stormed the Capitol building in search of lawmakers.

“I think at the beginning of the day, before everyone went to the protest, everyone was expecting peace,” McEnany recalled. “We’ve been to hundreds of gatherings – I’ve probably been to hundreds, surely many tens – and it was nothing but peaceful events, and we expected the day to be the same.”

She continued: ‘And when these events took place, it was disbelief, shock, gloom, sadness, terrified by the violence, and it was a very difficult, difficult day in the White House, there is no doubt.’

McEnany added that her feelings were shared by many other people in the White House.

“It was a widespread feeling, synonymous, completely,” she says. “A feeling that everyone felt, the – just completely condemned the actions of that day. Terrified and very gloomy.”

McEnany also discussed her relationship with President Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki.

“I wish her all the best. “I left a note for her in which we said we met many times, and she was very friendly,” McEnany said. A few of her colleagues were also in the press shop and I left her a note, I wish her the best. ‘

McEnany explained the difference in the way the mainstream media deals with Psaki compared to dealing with the Trump administration.

“I will never forget watching one of the early press conferences where she was asked about Antifa riots, and I believe she said she did not speak to the president about it. They made her move, while I would be asked about violence on the other side of the corridor … it would not be an answer that flew, nor would it, ‘McEnany said, adding that some reporters the information hall acted like ‘political activities’.

“I think the standards are different, but the American people are so smart, so show that they see the difference.”

McEnany and Faulker then discuss former President Trump’s weekend speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, and McEnany’s last days as White House press secretary.

McEnany quickly emerged as a hero for conservatives when she replaced Stephanie Grisham in April 2020 as White House press secretary. She brought a new passion to the information hall when she came armed with facts and information that regularly helped expose hypocrisy among the media. She did not shy away from the confrontation and was excellent at delivering the president’s messages.

McEnany graduated from Harvard Law School in 2016.
