More than 120 people appealed on Friday over the issue, including former government officials who worked under the Trump administration, the Reagan administration and both the Bush White House as well as former GOP members of Congress.
Evan McMullin, former chief policy officer of the House Republican Conference, tell Reuters that he presented the call along with former officials, who fear that a large faction of the party does not want to stand up against Trump.
“Large parts of the Republican Party are radicalizing American democracy,” McMullin told Reuters. “The party must commit itself again to the truth, the reason and the fundamental ideals, otherwise there must clearly be something new.”
The discussion talked about candidates as well as the support of the center-right candidates who are Republican, Democrat or independent.
Reuters reported that officials were upset that a significant Republican contingent was still voting to revoke the election results hours after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. an uprising after his second indictment, which is currently underway.
