Former giant Janoris Jenkins released by Saints

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Saints have released starting cornerback Janoris Jenkins in another roster aimed at helping the club fall below the $ 182.5 million NFL salary cap for the 2021 season.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis announced the release of Jenkins on Thursday, one day after New Orleans notified receiver Emmanuel Sanders and linebacker Kwon Alexander that they would be cut.

Jenkins has already started 13 games in which he played in 2020, intercepting for the team a draw with three. He made 54 solo or assisted attacks and was awarded with 12 defenses.

If Jenkins is cut, New Orleans’ salary cap will be reduced by about $ 7 million. The Saints had to eliminate about $ 25 million in the payroll by the time the new league year begins on Wednesday.

Jenkins, who started and played in 53 games for the Giants between 2016 and 19, had 12 interceptions and two touchdowns during his time with Big Blue. He has 26 interceptions and eight times in his career.

He also played four seasons with the Rams when they were in St. Louis.

These recent Saints tracks are the latest among a handful of prominent veterans to be released, including tighthead Jared Cook and Josh Hill, and punter Thomas Morstead.

The Saints also have yet to retain the services of defensive trey Trey Hendrickson, the club’s business leader in 2020, who will become a free agent next week.
