Former Australian Olympic swimmer Scott Miller arrested, accused of leading drug ring

SYDNEY – Former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller was arrested on Tuesday and charged with drug trafficking after Australian police seized methamphetamine worth 2 million Australian dollars ($ 1.6 million) and accused him of being a criminal syndicate led.

Police have arrested 45-year-old Miller and a 47-year-old man, who have not yet been named, in their homes in Sydney on Tuesday after they found methamphetamine hidden in eight candles in January, according to a statement from the police.

Miller was the director of a criminal syndicate, police spokesman John Watson claimed.

“It is alleged that others are working under his command,” said Watson.

The two men allegedly distributed drugs from Sydney that would go to the New South Wales region.

“It was not a small operation,” Watson said. “They were well organized and well funded.”

Miller won a silver medal in the 100m butterfly at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He was also a member of the Australian 4x100m medley relay team in Atlanta which won bronze.

He also won a world championship gold medal in the 1995 100m butterfly in Rio de Janeiro.
