The Xbox X Series is here – if you can get one. However, if you’re trying to find the next generation Microsoft console, I’ve got some good news: You do not really need one yet. Since the Xbox Series X plays the same games as the Xbox One (or a good gaming computer), you can safely wait until next year and complete your backlog in the meantime.
Still, if now is not the time to buy an Xbox Series X, when will it be – if it is at all? This question is relatively easy to answer for the PS5 (“When more exclusive games appear”), it’s harder to do for the Xbox Series X. This is because the Series X is merely one element in Microsoft’s larger gaming ecosystem, not necessarily the focal point.
The truth is that buying an Xbox Series X is almost entirely random, as you have access to most of the same games on gaming systems you currently own – and soon you will not need a gaming system at all.
Xbox Series X Games and the Xbox Ecosystem
The Xbox Series X is one place to play all the latest and greatest Microsoft games. But right now, the Xbox One and the PC are like that too. Instead of exclusive titles, the X series was introduced with a list of 30 “optimized” games, of Rat 5 on Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Some of these games come from first-party Microsoft studios; others are from third-party developers. But the general thread is that each of them can play on an Xbox One, and most can also play on a computer or even a PS4 or PS5.
There is no denying that the optimized games look (and sometimes play) better on an Xbox Series X. But nicer graphics graphics alone are not really enough to run and upgrade your system, especially if you already have an Xbox One X with 4K. .
Furthermore, if you already have a modern gaming computer, there is not much reason to get an Xbox Series X at all. Microsoft is committed to releasing all of its exclusive games on Xbox and PC in the future. And while the Series X is a powerful system, you can build something stronger, especially if you get a new graphics card Nvidia’s RTX 3000 Series or AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 Series.
However, the truth is that you do not have to buy individual Xbox games at all. Thanks to the ever-expanding Xbox Game Pass, you can download more than one hundred games, including every first-party Microsoft game, on the day it appears, for a fixed monthly fee.
What’s more: if you want to raise $ 15 a month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you are not limited to downloading games for powerful consoles or computers; you can also stream games directly to Android phones and tablets. This feature is still in beta, but Microsoft will expand it next year both iOS and web browsers.
The little “Web browsers” are especially important because they mean you can play Xbox games on a full-size computer screen, even if your computer has just enough processing power to make Chrome work. We can not say how well this feature may work at first or how long it will be in beta, but it essentially means that an Xbox Series X can finally become a totally optional part of the Xbox experience.
Xbox Series X Price and Other Factors
Granted, Xbox Game Pass is only one part of what the Xbox Series X offers, and is not particularly useful for gamers who prefer to buy titles à la carte. But it reinforces the idea that Microsoft wants you to buy the Series X whenever you feel like it – if you buy one at all. Once Game Pass streaming comes in web browsers and iOS, almost anyone with a connected device can access a large portion of the Xbox library.
As such, the Xbox Series X will primarily appeal to core players with 4K HDR TVs, who prefer to play lounge above a computer corner. And based on how fast the Xbox Series X sells out with each new stock, they are very happy to pay $ 500 for the privilege. Since I do not think the Xbox Series X is going to have any significant price drop in the next year, it’s not worth postponing your Xbox Series X purchase to save money.
It’s also worth considering when it comes to the Xbox Series X of its exciting exclusive games, such as Halo Infinite, Fable 4, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga and Blessed. However, many of these games do not have hard release dates, which means you’re just as good as mine when the Xbox Series X goes from ‘nice to have’ to ‘indispensable’.
In addition, I’m not aware of any major feature updates that Microsoft has planned for the Xbox Series X. The overall experience is therefore unlikely to be much better at the end of 2021 than at the end of 2020. better or worse, the Xbox Series X looks like a much more consistent console than the PS5, and that means you can buy it almost every time.
Outlook: When to Buy Xbox Series X
If you want an Xbox Series X, you have to buy it if you want one. And if you do not want one so much, you may not need it for some time. The games you want to play are available on other systems and via methods other than just buying them one by one. The Series X is a useful but not essential component of the wider Xbox ecosystem.
As far as it’s easy to find Xbox Series X consoles, it’s someone’s guess. Historically, when a console launches in November, stocks stabilize between late January and late March. So let’s say ‘February 2021’ is a good time to pick one up. You may not play any real exclusive titles, but at least you play the games you own with a beautiful graphic version.
