A Ford CEO recently revealed that Ford was in the planning stages of a wild advertising concept that unfortunately could not materialize. The ad would have seen the Shelby GT500 run from 0 to 100 km / h and then back to zero over the length of a flying deck racetrack.
“Our brochure business had a moth fleet of ships and we knew mathematically we could do it,” Jim Owens, head of Mustang Marketing, recently told Ford Authority. ‘So we wrote it down and really wanted to do it. But we did not realize it. ”
It’s unclear what the ad sank at the end, whether it was the global pandemic or something else, but that the concept is theoretically possible is no less impressive.

Ford itself said the Mustang could complete the performance in just 10.6 seconds. It’s all the more impressive when you realize that the GT500 clocked a quarter of a mile at 10.6 seconds with a speed of 133 km / h.
This kind of performance is achieved thanks to Ford’s accelerated 5.2-liter Predator V8 which delivers 760 hp, which is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is good enough to reach the GT500 at 60 km / h in just 3.3 seconds and up to 100 km / h in 6.7 seconds.
“The range of brute-force acceleration, seamless road shifts and incredible smooth shifts on the track further highlight how the soul of the Shelby GT500 is elevated in our most advanced Mustang ever,” Ed Performance Engineer Ed Ford said in 2019. “The 760 horsepower effortlessly handles is our first Tremec dual-clutch transmission with an advanced control system that enhances the GT500’s five driving modes and offers a riding experience once reserved only for exotic supercars.”
The brakes, meanwhile, are 16.5 inches in diameter – larger than the base wheel on a 2019 Fiesta. The brake flaps are made of aluminum and have six pistons that push the large discs to a halt and are manufactured by Brembo.
