Ford is delaying hundreds of Mustang Mach-E deliveries to do “additional quality checks” after delivering a handful of vehicles last year.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Delay
Ford officially launched the Mustang Mach-E last month. This is an important milestone for the carmaker, as the Mach-E is Ford’s first vehicle to be built from the ground up electrically.
While deliveries began in 2020, the automaker has delivered only a limited number of vehicles, and it is expected to start delivering now in 2021.
However, we have recently received reports from several new buyers who have been notified that their upcoming deliveries, which are planned in the coming weeks, will be delayed.
Some people have been told that they will have to wait up to an extra month, and we have received enough reports that we think it’s worth asking Ford.
A Ford spokesman confirmed Electrek that they have indeed postponed several hundred Mustang Mach-E models for additional “quality checks”:
As part of our commitment to delivering high quality vehicles, we perform additional quality checks on hundreds of Mustang Mach-E models built before dealer shipments began last month. We want to ensure that they meet the quality our customers expect and deserve.
The car manufacturer did not elaborate on what led to the additional quality checks being done.
Electrek’s Take
We just reported last month about Darren Palmer, the head of Ford battery-powered electric vehicles, casting a shadow over Tesla over quality issues.
Palmer mentioned a number of issues that Tesla vehicles were aware of and promised that Ford’s electric vehicles would not have quality issues:
The doors fit properly, the plastic and other materials match, the bumpers do not fall off, the roof does not come off when you wash them, and the door handles do not get stuck in cold weather …
If you are going to critique, make sure your Mustang Mach-Es, especially the first ones, are flawless. It sounds like that’s what Ford is doing here.
Unfortunately, this results in delays for early deliveries, but in view of the Mach-E program, it is logical to ensure that the early deliveries will be very good.
We tested a pre-production prototype of the Mustang Mach-E last month and we were impressed.
