Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 vs. Ken Block’s Hoonicorn: Drag Race

Ken Block’s Hoonicorn is an animal. Although built to go sideways and melt spectacular donuts, the 1400 horsepower Mustang, 1965 with a four-wheel drive, is capable of defeating almost anything in a straight line, including a Mclaren Senna, Rob Dahm’s four-wheel drive rotor RX-7, and even a full-fledged trailer. It is therefore no surprise to see that a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 needs a big handicap to achieve a victory against its highly adapted sibling.

The GT500, our Performance Car of the Year for 2021, is not a sloppy affair. Thanks to a 760-hp powered V-8 and a fast two-clutch transmission, it can lay on the strip at very fast times – at least for a production car.

In a straight drag against the Hoonicorn it is left in the dust, with a number of lengths of the car against the finish line. It’s a similar story when the two cars start from the beginning. The GT500 can hit the 1400 horsepower missile on wheels only if it starts wide, and Block starts from an excavation.

Is there a production car out there that can defeat the Hoonicorn in a drag race? Let us know if you can think of it in the comments below.
