Harris stands proudly on the steps of the American Capitol when she is sworn in by Sonia Sotomayor, the country’s first Supreme Court justice in Latina.
The groundbreaking event was celebrated by many families who shared photos of their daughters and sons witnessing the history on social media.

Miller told CNN last year was filled with so many teachable moments for her children, and Inauguration Day was a day to learn more about grace, hope and potential. “It means I can be an astronaut when I grow up,” said Miller’s 6-year-old daughter, Eleanor.

Sarah Johnson said her son Uly is excited to watch the moment. “Overwhelmed with joy, my five-year-old son was given half a day to watch the inauguration and even more happy that he will grow up with @KamalaHarris as the VP! #WomenInLeadership”

Johnson said it is important for her to educate a boy who sees strong women in leadership, especially strong women in color in leadership. “I think it makes us all better and our country better,” she said.
Dr. Rachelle Winkle-Wagner holds her daughters close as they watch with excited grins. “One of my best parenting moments was today – when I saw Kamala Harris being sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor with my two daughters,”
she wrote in a post on Twitter.
Winkle-Wagner told CNN the moment enabled her to feel connected to generations of women from all backgrounds who fought for women’s rights. Her eldest daughter, Eleanor, said the fact that she saw Harris take the oath was the moment she knew she could run for president.

“Today’s ceremony gives people as we hope,” she told CNN. “People with daughters, people with colors of boys, people who raise their children to be better than decent people.”
Adina Davidson’s daughter, Aaliyah, watched closely as Harris was sworn in. ‘Mrs vice-present. We see you, ‘she wrote in a post to Instagram.
“As a mom, that meant my daughter would not just hear me tell her she could be anything she wanted, if she thought about it,” Davidson told CNN. “She will actually be able to see it for herself.”
