For 2021, Apple Watch finally needs a battery that lasts longer than a day

More than steps, more than active minutes, I focused on getting enough decent sleep every day. This was a problem that worked from home during 2020-2021. Apple’s latest watch and WatchOS software focused on add sleep tracking it can help make bedtime schedules more frequent. That sounds good. Besides … it interferes with the battery life of the Apple Watch.

I can say that the Apple Watch needs new health sensors or another medically approved measure like blood pressure. (I have high blood pressure, so it would be nice if it were unrealistic now.) But first, it needs a better battery life. Of all the fitness trackers and portable items I have alternated over the past year – the Oura Ring, Fitbit Sense, Amazon Halo Band and Withings Scanwatch – the Apple Watch recently died in battery life.

You, the Apple Watch owner, can say: upload it every day, no problem. However, it is not so easy if you wear it all night and supposedly locate your sleep. The clock can, in my experience, run a day and a half straight, but then it’s a matter of figuring out when that moment would be: while taking a shower? While sitting at my desk? It takes at least half an hour to raise a reasonable amount.

More battery life is also not always the perfect answer. It is easy to lose how many nights a ring or a watch can last. I find I miss a day or two of tracking with Fitbits, or Oura, or the Halo Band, or anything else I do not charge daily. Having even more days, or even hours, of battery life helps. Apple may use a lower power mode or a new chip that helps the battery. Or, perhaps, insert a larger battery. Or add some kind of battery watch strap, which is the equivalent of the smart battery of the iPhone battery protrusion.

That said, don’t expect a new watch until fall, as always. Apple has released its Apple Watch alliances Fitness Plus service last month, and maybe it has more linked services like it’s in store for 2021.

I’ll just say that the Apple Watch is working pretty perfectly for me at the moment. Except of course the battery life.

There are many other ways the Apple Watch can be improved. It can become a better remote control for connecting phones and computers. (I use the camera’s remote control all the time to start and stop self-recording videos, but I want more.) It should have some kind of biometrics, like Touch ID. It can be a real, real watch store.

I would give it up for a better battery life. If the Apple Watch only gets one new thing in 2021, let it be so.
