Flu-like illness is an expected side effect of Covid vaccines, says WHO, with symptoms such as fever and headache – RT World News

A flu-like illness is a likely side effect of the vaccination against Covid-19, the World Health Organization’s Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety said in a statement on Monday.

The committee said the benefit-risk balance of Covid-19 vaccines “stay favorable” after checking the data for flu-like illness among health workers who got the jab.

Its review, which was conducted virtually on February 25, found that the vaccines can cause flu-like symptoms, including headaches, fatigue, muscle aches, fever and chills.

The side effects were reported in clinical trials in several countries in the first few days after vaccination.

“Most symptoms were mild to moderate and resolved within days,” the statement reads, adding that side effects are more common among 55-year-olds.

The committee concluded that its safety advice for the vaccines could remain unchanged, as the side effect reports were in line with expectations.

It is recommended that people suffering from headaches, fever or muscle aches after their first dose should still receive their follow-up booster as planned, and that people should be aware of the possible side effects before vaccination.
