Florida women dress up as ‘grandmothers’ in an apparent attempt to get COVID-19 vaccine, the official said

ORLANDO, Florida – Young women in Florida have dressed up as older women in an apparent attempt to qualify for COVID-19 vaccination, a local official said Thursday.

Dr. Raul Pino, the director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said the women in a hood, goggles and gloves “dressed like grandmothers” arrived at a vaccination site but were turned away. It looks like the women were in their twenties, he told reporters.

Pino said the young women would come to their second dose of the vaccine, and had valid vaccination cards from their first dose. Pino did not know how they first got through the vaccination process. He indicated that the second time was a problem with the identification of women.

The ABC subsidiary, WFTV, reported that the situation had been referred to the sheriff’s office for further investigation.

Security has been tightened around vaccination sites, Pino said.

“This is the hottest commodity currently available,” he said of the COVID-19 vaccine. “We have to be very careful with the funds and the resources we provide.”
