Florida police give nationwide warning after car was stolen with bottles of COVID-19 vaccine

Police in Plant City, Florida, have issued a nationwide warning to an interested person after a car with bottles of the COVID-19 vaccine was stolen on Wednesday.

About 30 vials were stolen during the robbery, which according to NBC Miami amounts to about $ 10,000 vaccinations.

According to a report on the department’s Facebook page, the incident took place around 3pm at the Strawberry Festival Grounds in the city.

It is not yet clear who owns the car, identified as a four-door, gray Hyundai Accent 2018 with a Florida license plate NPJJ58. The doses were kept in the vehicle in front of the distribution in the Plant City vaccination center at the festival site and were properly cooled at the time, reports NBC Miami.

Police did not indicate whether the suspect knew the vaccine dose was in the vehicle before he stole it, but noted that the keys to the vehicle were left in the ignition.

Police in Plant City have released surveillance footage of the suspect, described as a man in his early 20s with long hair, and encourage anyone with information about the person’s whereabouts to contact them at 813-757- 9200.

Crime Stoppers Tampa Bay has issued a reward offer of up to $ 5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, according to CNN affiliate WKMG.

Florida has so far administered 2,320,966 doses of vaccine, the health department said.
